International Mountain Connection

Inclusive Training - Our Policy for Trainees Who Need Additional Support

At International Mountain Connection, our training courses are open to everyone, without exception.

Individuals who need additional support are invited to share this information with us to help us determine what adaptations should be made to ensure a successful training experience. All information that is shared is confidential and is not shared with other participants in the program. This information is only shared, if necessary, with advisors from our region who help training organisations adapt their programs.

What is the process?

A meeting is set up between you and Michelle Onofrey from International Mountain Connection. This initial meeting is used to learn more about your situation. Based on this information, you and Michelle will discuss what type of English training course interests you.

Michelle will note the adaptations that are needed for a successful program. These adaptations can include but are not limited to: shorter sessions, instruction that is primarily oral or written, the font used in handouts, time allowed to complete tasks including test taking, the location, etc.

If Michelle believes that additional support is needed to adapt the program or to provide assistance for you, she will contact one of her regional advisors. She will meet with these advisors to determine additional adaptations that can be made with their support. These advisors include members of AGIFIPH, Handicap Resource Formation, LADAPT, FIPHFP, amongst others.

These adaptations will be proposed in a program and contract for you to review. If there are additional changes you would like to make, you will be welcome to share them with Michelle.

If you decide to proceed with the training, you will sign your contract and your training will begin on the dates that were agreed upon.

Throughout the training, Michelle will be monitoring your progress and the adaptations that were put into place. Changes in the training or additional adjustments can and will be made if deemed necessary. She will be communicating with you often to make sure that your training is going smoothly.

At the end of the training, you will meet with Michelle to discuss your satisfaction with the training and the adaptations that were made. This feedback is important to help International Mountain Connection provide quality training to all of its participants.
